CPMR Political Bureau

Basil O’Fee of Northpoint presented on Improved  Connectivity in Maritime and Peripheral Regions to the CPMR Policial Bureau, and focused his remarks on the catalytic impacts of aviation, the ACARE 2050 transport targets for EU citizens, and what EU state aid compliant tools are available to intervene positively to improve connectivity.

  • Basil O’Fee is organising a Tourism best practice site visit to in the Saariselkä-Ivalo-Inari region of North Finland for Baltic Bird partners between the 19th and 21st November connected with the Tourism Destination Development Work packages

SPARA 2020

Smart Peripheral and Remote Airports 2020.  The SPARA 2020 designation of a Northern Periphery Programme ‘preparatory programme’ concerns a new research initiative being prepared in collaboration with three public authorities concerned with transport and three academic institutions in Scotland, Norway and Sweden.  Northpoint Aviation Services is providing specialist expert and coordinating support for this exciting and potentially cutting edge 9 month project.

Future Transport Solutions in a Northern Dimension Perspective

Northpoint Associate Basil O’Fee presented at this workshop in Bodø in Northern Norway on the subject of Challenges regarding air transport in remote and peripheral regions.  The workshop was attached to a Baltic Region conference of peripheral and maritime regions (CPMR) meeting.

Northpoint consultant advising London Mayor’s review

Busy, busy

Basil O’Fee is presenting at an interesting meeting  in Bodø entitled “Future Transport Solutions in a Northern Dimension Perspective” which is part of the CPMR Baltic Sea Commission General Assembly
this week in Norway.  Chris Cain is presenting at a Baltic Bird workshop meeting in Koli, Finland also this week, and some Northpoint associates plan to attend the 17th Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) World Conference – in Bergamo, Italy later in June.

Greenhouse gas emissions

“Globally, the aviation sector is responsible for about 1 to 2% of greenhouse gas emissions. In the UK, domestic and international aviationemissions account for about 6% of total greenhouse gas emissions or 22% of the transport sector’s greenhouse gas emissions. This compares to 40% of the transport sector’s greenhouse gas emissions that are emitted by cars, 14% by heavy goods vehicles and 8% by domestic and international shipping.” – according to the UK Aviation Policy Framework
